Dr. Crystal R. Icenhour is a molecular biologist, clinical scientist, and biotechnology entrepreneur with expertise in infectious disease and the human microbiome. She has dedicated her career to advancing the understanding and diagnosis of chronic infections and exploring how healthy gut microbiomes can support improved patient outcomes.

Dr. Icenhour earned her PhD in Pathobiology and Molecular Medicine from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. She completed postdoctoral fellowships in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and in Infectious Disease at Duke University College of Medicine.

She co-founded two biotechnology companies focused on infectious disease diagnostics and joined Labcorp in 2021 following its acquisition of her clinical metagenomics testing company. She currently serves as Labcorp’s Discipline Director for Microbiome and Specialty Infectious Disease. Her additional areas of expertise include esoteric microbiology, molecular genetics and genomics, and molecular infectious disease diagnostics.
